association of insulin-like growth factor-i (igf-i) with the severity and outcomes of acute ischemic stroke

چکیده
background: the aim of this study was to evaluate whether higher serum levels of igf-i in the acute phase of ischemic stroke are associated with less severe strokes and better functional outcome in a period of one year follow up. methods: from october 2014 to august 2015, patients with the diagnosis of acute ischemic stroke admitted to the stroke unit of firoozgar hospital entered this prospective study. nihss (national institutes of health stroke scale) and mrs (modified rankin scale for stroke) scores were used to measure the severity and outcomes of acute ischemic stroke at the time of admission and one year after the stroke, respectively. results: sixty acute ischemic stroke patients (28 male, 32 female) with the mean age of 71.1 ± 9 years were evaluated for the serum level of igf-i at the time of admission to the stroke unit of firoozgar hospital. there was seen a significant correlation between the igf-i serum level and the mrs scores (p value=0.02; correlation coefficient= -0.32). igf-i serum level had no significant correlation with nihss scores. conclusion: these results support that the higher serum levels of igf-i at the time of stroke is associated with a significant better outcome in a one-year period of follow up. however, this hormone serum level seems not to have a predictable value for the ischemic stroke severity. further studies are required to clarify the neuroprotective mechanisms of igf-i in ischemic stroke process.

متن کاملEffect of the Addition of Insulin Like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I) on Cryopreservation of Hariana Bull Semen
This experiment was designed to study the effect of insulin like growth factor-I (IGF-I) on cryopreservation of Hariana bull semen. For this purpose, semen ejaculates were collected from four Hariana bulls using artificial vagina at biweekly interval. The semen samples which possess more than 70% initial progressive motility and above 500 million/mL spermatozoa concentration was subsequently su...
متن کاملThe use of urinary Insulin-like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I) for determining skeletal age of participants
Introduction: Biochemical markers play an important role in the growth and repair of bone and can be evaluated in different biological fluids. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the level of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in urine as a puberty index and to compare it with cervical vertebral maturational stages (CVMSs) in lateral cephalometry. Materials&Methods: In this cros...

results 100 patients with cirrhosis with a male to female ratio of 63:37 and a mean age of 44.4 ± 15 years were enrolled in the study. median igf-1 was 92.95 ± 91.51 ng/ml. 14 patients (14%) had igf-1 within normal limits while 86 patients (86%) had abnormal igf-1 levels. in all patients the correlation coefficient between igf-1 and meld was -0.317 (p = 0.001) and 0.478 between igf-1 and child-...
متن کاملInsulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and clinical nutrition.
IGF-I (insulin-like growth factor-I) is a peptide hormone, produced predominantly by the liver in response to pituitary GH (growth hormone), which is involved in a wide variety of physiological processes. It acts in an endocrine, paracrine and autocrine manner to promote growth. The production of IGF-I signals the availability of nutrients needed for its anabolic actions. Recently, there has be...
